Pechacek scores hole-in-one at state golf tourney
River Falls High School senior Mari Pechacek made the shot of the WIAA Girls State Golf Championships Tuesday when she made a hole-in-one on the par-3, 135-yard third hole at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.
Pechacek's ace helped the Wildcats shave 15 strokes from their first day score and move up two spots to finish in seventh place in the 12-team Division 1 competition.
The Cats were in ninth place after Monday's first round score of 358, but bounced back with 343 Tuesday to finish with a two-day total of 701. Homestead won the WIAA Division 1 state championship with a two-day total of 657.
Manuela Riascos, who was tied for 16th place after the first round with a score of 81, fired a 79 Tuesday to move up eight spots in the individual standings and finish in a tie for eighth place with a two-day score of 160.
Halle Hauer cut nine strokes off her first day score of 92 to shoot an 81 Tuesday and tie for 33rd place with a total of 173. Kacey Simone also improved by nine strokes on the second day, following her 95 of Monday with an 86 Tuesday to finish 50th with a two-day total of 181.
Pechacek posted rounds of 90 and 99 to finish at 189 and Katie Byron went from 109 Monday to 97 Tuesday and finish at 206.
Emily Joers of Waukesha carded a pair of 73s to win the Division 1 title with a 146. Hudson's Cassie Wurm tied for 23rd with rounds of 84 and 84 for a 168.
