Having started her business in December, Kelly, who has been in the tax business for 17 years, will offer individuals and businesses complete tax preparation.

She notes that she has lots of experience with individual tax returns and specializes in foreign issues -- either persons who work overseas or those who are new to the country.

Her services will include federal and state tax preparations, multi-state returns, investment and rental income, tax planning and more.

Kelly will also prepare taxes for small businesses including sole proprietorships, partnerships, S corps and more -- she did say that she does not handle more complex forms.

Business services offered will include: Business entity setup, QuickBooks setup, financial statements and more.

Kelly said that though she is located in River Falls, she wants to provide services to the entire river valley area.

"I don't want to ignore Minnesota," she said.

Kelly, who lives in Stillwater, Minn., is an enrolled agent (EA), a designation from the Internal Revenue Service.

According to Kelly, being an EA allows her to represent clients in front of the IRS.

"If you have a tax problem," said Kelly, "I can call the IRS, with your permission, on your behalf or represent you at an audit."

She added that she can do this for clients even if she does not prepare their taxes.

After this tax season, Kelly, who attended both St. Thomas University and Inver Hills Community College, will offer bookkeeping services.

"I want to offer as little or as much as people need," she said.

She would also like to connect with the local schools to host seminars for students about things such as W-2s.

Prior to opening her own business she worked at the H&R Block Premier office in Woodbury, Minn. as a Master Tax Advisor.

Kelly, whose husband Bob is a domestic violence counselor, decided to open her own business after working with George Woychik of Financial Strategies -- located in the same building as Kelly.

The mom to three, Jake, 26 and twins, Mallory and Mackenzie, 23, also said about opening her own business: "With all the (economic and tax) controversy, it's good for a tax business."

In her spare time Kelly enjoys golf -- she is the president of her golf league -- plays Sudoku and quilting.

She said about quilting: 'It very precise and geometric...numbers geeks like quilting."

Kelly is very pleased to be working in River Falls, she commented on how nice and welcoming everyone has been.

"I am looking forward to making a connection," she said.

Kelly can be reached at 715-426-2107. Visit St. Croix Tax's website at St. Croix Tax for more information.
