Paul W. Proescholdt of Mesa, Ariz., died on Feb. 21 at the age of 85.
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he received his B.S. degree from Iowa State, M.S. from Northern Illinois University, and an EdD from the University of Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII and Korea. Paul married Janice Nelson of Rockford, Ill., in 1950. She passed away in 2000.
Over the years, Paul worked as a farmer, teacher, principal, and superintendent of schools (including the River Falls School District from 1971-1975). After retiring from school administration, he turned his "investment" hobby into a second career as a financial advisor.
Paul will be missed by his wife Kip (Martha), whom he married in River Falls in 2001. Paul and Janice had four children; Ann Proescholdt Shaw (Curt) of Greensboro, N.C., Mary (Tom) Halada of River Falls, Carl (Katie Aspenes) Proescholdt of Cumberland, Wis., and Marty (Rhys) Larson of Stillwater, Minn. He was very proud of his children and their spouses; his grandchildren: Eva (Eric Mann) and Emma Shaw; Jason (Becky) and Emily Halada; Anne and Laura Proescholdt, Madeline and Paul Larson; and his great-grandchildren, Elouise Mann and Lucy and Johnny Halada. Paul's sister, Mary Jo, and her husband, Henry Tindal, reside in Greenville, S.C. Also survived by stepson Vaughn (Terri) Kowahl and step-grandchildren Paige, Hannah, and Jadyn of Charlottesville, Va.
Memorials may be made to either the Forward Foundation (RF Public Schools) or Hospice of the Valley, Mesa.
A Celebration of Life reception was held in Mesa on Feb. 24. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 14, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in River Falls. Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. and the service at 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to an open house at Tom and Mary Halada's home following the service.
