Outstanding science teacher named
River Falls Wisconsin 2815 Prairie Drive / P.O. Box 25 54022

Toni Velure, a science teacher at Meyer Middle School, was named the 2009 Geoffrey G. Eichholz Outstanding Science Teacher by the Health Physics Society.

The award consists of a plaque and cash prize, and recognizes the work done by Velure in teaching nuclear science and technology.

One reason Velure was selected for the award is the inquiry-based hands-on experiments and activities she provides for her students.

Velure accepted the award at the annual meeting of the Health Physics Society in Minneapolis last month. During the banquet, Velure accepted the award and briefly addressed the attendees.

Velure was nominated by the North Central Chapter of the Health Physics Society after receiving that organization's Outstanding Science Teacher Award in April.
