Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and first lady Tonette Walker invite family members of Wisconsin's service members -- past and present, here and abroad -- to send a holiday ornament dedicated to their loved one to this year's "Tribute to our Troops" holiday tree.

The ornaments will be displayed on one of the large evergreen trees in the mansion during December's holiday tours. They can be plain or fancy, as well as personalized.

Governor Walker said, "We have men and women who will not spend the holidays at home with their families because of their service to our nation. It is a small, but important, gesture to remember those brave service members at this time of year."

The governor and first lady invite as many families as possible of soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and Coast Guard members to take part in the event. Ornaments can be plain, fancy or personalized.

"This is a difficult time of year for military families with a loved one serving overseas," said the state's first lady. "In an important way, the 'Tribute to our Troops' tree helps all of us remember not just those who are serving our nation, but their families as well."

Anyone who'd like to participate should send an ornament no later than Nov. 9, to:

Wisconsin National Guard Service Member Support Division

    ATTN: Master Sgt. Deborah Severson

    200 Wright Street

    Madison, Wis., 53704

The "Tribute to our Troops" tree will be decorated Nov. 14. Public tours that include it will be held noon-2 p.m. on Dec. 5, 6, 12, 13 and 15, and from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 8.
