No slowing down for this RF businessman
While most people at his age are enjoying the retired life, 80-year old Dale Viney is busy opening a home-based business, Viney Realty.
After retiring from Security Financial Bank on his 80th birthday, Oct. 4, 2012, Viney opened his new business the following day.
"I decided that I can't just sit -- I can't do it," he said.
"Inactivity is a killer, you have to do something -- get up and move," said Viney, also an avid Packers and Badgers fan.
For Viney real estate is something that he really enjoys.
"I still have the same feeling of enthusiasm," he said.
Viney, married to Sandy Viney for 26 years, said he started in the mortgage, banking and real estate industry in the early 1960s.
"I have been a licensed broker since 1963 and always kept my license current," he added.
When asked what the difference is between a real estate broker and a real estate agent, Viney said a broker is licensed and allowed to work independently and set up an office. A real estate agent works for a broker, Viney said.
In 1982, Viney said he joined First National Bank and set up up the mortgage/real estate division. Before that he worked in the Twin Cities. He said he helped the bank sell mortgages into the secondary market.
Viney said he stayed with FNB for 15 years until retiring in 1997.
After his retirement from FNB, Viney said a mortgage company asked him to set up a branch in River Falls and he stayed there for five years. He then worked at Security Financial Bank for five years.
Viney, with six children and nine grandchildren, said he did $100 million in real estate loans while working in the banks.
A source of pride for Viney is that he has only had one home foreclosed on in the loans he has done.
"I was a good mortgage (payment) collector," he said with a smile.
Viney, who was raised in Milton and was the youngest of seven boys, said that the highest interest rate he ever saw was 18%, while the current mortgage rates are the lowest.
In his spare time Viney plays golf, hunts and fishes. Viney said he is also on numerous golf committees, including the Don Page Memorial Golf Tournament. Page was a good friend.
He also volunteers with the Shriners and is part of the Masonic Lodge in River Falls and Ezekiel Lutheran Church.
Viney Realty, a real estate and mortgage business offers the following services: Selling homes, help buying homes, and commercial property real estate.
Viney Realty also specializes in mortgage consulting where Viney can determine what home-loan amount a person would qualify for. He can also help a perspective buyer identify things that need to be fixed before they qualify for a loan.
He mentioned that he works closely with Betty Most, who is with Edina Realty out of River Falls.
Viney said he is available anytime and invites those interested in Viney Realty to give him a call at 715-425-7662 or 612-735-5705.
Said Viney: "I like helping young people get into a home or an older person get into retirement facilities."
