Mitchell Jay Phillips passed from this life on May 1, 2009. He was a resident of Austin, Texas, where he was retired with wife, Florence.
He was born in Tuscaloosa, Ala., where he lived until he joined the Air Force from 1951 to 1954.
He then lived in the Los Angeles area where he met and married Florence, his wife of 52-1/2 years. They moved to Sheldon where he worked at Pickering Lumber Yard.
He left there for Northwestern Electronics Institute, and then worked in River Falls at the university. The family then moved to Houston in 1990 and finally to Austin in 2000.
He is survived by wife, Florence; daughter, Amanda Winford of Austin; son, Allen Reed of Garland; four grandchildren: Veronica and Levar Winford and Abigail and Kara Phillips. He is also survived by three brothers and two sisters.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
He was greatly loved by all who knew him and he is sorely missed.
