Millicent Olive (McKie) Jeffrey, 97
Millicent Olive (McKie) Jeffrey, 97, died peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Westerly Nursing Home. She was the beloved wife of Frederick P. Jeffrey; sadly he predeceased her in 1997.
Born in East Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, on Sept. 2, 1916, she was the youngest of five daughters of the late Edgar and Georgiana (Kirkman) McKie.
Mrs. Jeffrey graduated from New Brunswick High School in New Jersey. She married Fred Jeffrey on June 26, 1937, after meeting him while she was a secretary at Rutgers University.
Olive and Fred moved to Amherst, Mass., in 1944. She was an active member of the Amherst Community, serving on the Amherst Women's Club, and was a longtime volunteer at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, MA.
Mrs. Jeffrey had a great passion for landscape painting. Her work was done in oils and most often featured ocean scenes from the east coast. She also was an avid gardener, bridge player and enjoyed doing crosswords.
Mrs. Jeffrey will be sadly missed by her children: Roy F. Jeffrey of Kennebunk, Maine, Robert M. Jeffrey of River Falls, Wis. and Judith B. Stratton of Cedar City, Utah. She was the loving grandmother of eight and great grandmother of fourteen.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly, R.I. A calling hour preceded the service from 1-2 p.m. Burial will be in River Bend Cemetery, Beach St., Westerly, R.I.
