The family moved from southern Wisconsin to Hudson where Mike grew up and graduated from Hudson High School.

It was around this time that Mike met Roxanne Wrobel. The two fell in love and were married on May 15, 1976, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson. This marriage was blessed with two children, Stephanie and Scott. The family settled in River Falls and Mike began his career at Andersen Corporation where he worked in shipping and receiving. He would faithfully work at Andersen until his retirement in December of 2007.

Mike had a lot of hobbies and activities that kept him busy. He enjoyed hunting, and was very skilled at woodworking. He was a sports fan and big Green Bay Packer's fan as well. Mike's love of cooking led to becoming a master of the grill. With his woodworking skills he also became somewhat of a Mr. Fix-It and Mike loved working on repair projects around his house.

When there were no projects at his own home, Mike often volunteered his time and talents to his friends, family and neighbors. He was an idea man and always willing to be there when his friends were in need.

His greatest project was his family. Together, Mike and his wife loved being involved with their kids and attended every event they participated in. He was there for every sport and every season, even coaching when needed. When it came to his family you could always count on him to be a hard working, supporting and a loving husband and father.

Mike will be dearly missed by his friends and family. This includes his wife, Roxanne, of River Falls; daughter, Stephanie of Eau Claire; son, Scott of River Falls; his mother, Marjorie Gavin of Hudson; brother, Gary of Hudson; sisters, Mary (Barry) Preston of Danbury, and Ann Gavin of Hudson; and parents-in-law, Emory and Virgil Wrobel of Eau Claire. He is also survived by many other uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and special friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Charles Gavin.

A funeral service for Mike took place on Tuesday, June 16, at St Bridget Catholic Church.

Burial followed at the St. Bridget Catholic Church Cemetery. Father Jerry Harris officiated. Services were in the care of the O'Connell Funeral Home in Hudson.
