Michael A. Aus, 58

Michael A. Aus, 58, of Fountain City, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at his home after a two-year battle with lymphoma.

Mike was born on Feb. 18, 1951, in Amery, to Thomas and Jean Aus. He graduated from River Falls High School in 1969.

On Nov. 3, 1973, Mike married Mary Sutter.

He put himself through college working at the Andersen Corporation in Bayport, Minn. Mike received his Bachelor of Science degree in math and accounting from the UW-River Falls. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He did his MBA study in finance and accounting at the University of Minnesota.

His career path with IBM started in Minneapolis, working as a systems engineer and later became a large systems marketing manager. Mike worked in LaCrosse, Minneapolis, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Denver, receiving many promotions and recognitions in his career including Marketing Manager of the Year. His teenage goal was to retire at age 39...he retired at age 41.

Mike was a past director of the First State Bank of Fountain City and the Riverland Energy Cooperative. Fishing, especially in muskie tournaments, was a prominent part of his life. Another passion was attending auctions and estate sales.

Mike is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Kimberly of St. Paul; parents, Tom and Jean of Amery; siblings: Barb (Dave) Chinnock of St. Paul, Brenda (Warren) Higgins of Alexandria, Minn., Mary (Tom) Lilley of New Milford, Conn., Bill (Lisa) Aus of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Beth (John) Crowell of Olive Branch, Miss.; nephews, nieces and friends, along with his mother-in-law, Delores Sutter.

He was preceded in death by his godchild, Amy Chinnock.

A private family celebration of Mike's life will be held at a later date.
