Men skate to Peters Cup semifinals
The UW-River Falls men's hockey team advanced to its first Peters Cup semifinal since 2007 by sweeping UW-Eau Claire, 3-1 and 6-3 in an NCHA tournament quarterfinal series over the weekend.
The third-seeded Falcons, now 17-8-2 overall, will play at No. 2 St. Scholastica in Duluth Saturday at 7 p.m. The Saints posted a win and a tie over UW-Superior last weekend to advance to the semifinals. No. 4 UW-Stevens Point will play at top-seeded St. Norbert in the other semifinal.
Tyler Czuba had a goal and two assists and Ben Beaudoin had a pair of goals in the Falcons' 6-3 series clinching win over the Blugolds Saturday night at Hunt Arena.
Caleb Wolfgram, Ryan Goodmanson and Sean Roadhouse also scored goals in the win while Falcon goalie Bo Storuzuk made 13 saves. UW-RF outshot UW-EC 34-16.
Friday night, Andy Indiereden, Tad Norris and Beaudoin scored goals and Storuzuk stopped 24 of the 25 shots he faced as the Falcons took the first game of the series, 3-1.
