Marion Christianson, 96

Marion E. Christianson, 96, of Hudson, formerly of River Falls, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at the Hudson Hospital after a bout with pneumonia.

She was born the daughter of Walter and Ruth (Laughlin) Scheide on July 13, 1913, in Carrington, N.D. In 1931, Marion graduated from Ellsworth High School and continued her education at the River Falls Teachers College receiving her teaching certificate in 1932. She taught school for 8 years in Esdale, Wis. In August of 1938, she married Norman Christianson at Tabor Church near Bay City. Norman was an officer in the U.S. Navy and the couple moved from base to base until he was discharged in 1946. Also in 1946, Marion and Norman bought a farm in Kinnickinnic Township and raised purebred Black Angus Cattle until retiring in 1981.

During these years, Marion was involved with the culture club, was a census taker, volunteered with Meals on Wheels and participated in numerous political, civic and public education matters. She was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Kinnikinnic Chapter in River Falls. In 1981, Marion and Norman moved to River Falls and in 1995 they made their final move Wintergreen in Hudson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman; son, Thomas; and brother, Milo Scheide.

Marion is survived by son, Terry (Carol) Christianson; brother, Lloyd Scheide; grandsons, Chad (Shelly) Christianson, Kipp (Tabatha) Christianson; step-grandchildren, Rick (Tammy) Defiel, Nick Defiel, Mike (Mary) Defiel, Chris Defiel; great-grandchildren, Loren and Clover Christianson; 10 step-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family of Marion would like to express much gratitude to the staff at CCH and Hudson Hospital for their loving care during her final months and weeks.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at the United Methodist Church in River Falls. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, with an Order of the Eastern Star service at 7 p.m., at Bakken-Young Funeral Home in River Falls, and also Friday from 10-11 a.m. before the service at church. The interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
