Margaret Osen, 93

Margaret Mae Osen, age 93, of Roberts, formerly of River Falls, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at American Heritage Care Center.

She was born April 8, 1917, in Platteville, Wis., daughter of William and Grace (Derr) Owens. Margaret graduated from Mt. Hope High School in 1935. She married Clarence Osen on July 10, 1943; he preceded her in death on April 13, 1999.

Margaret will be fondly remembered for her passion for sewing, quilting, embroidery, crocheting, crazy patchwork, gardening, and spoon painting, along with playing cribbage and fishing for sunnies. Margaret had a great sense of humor, always like to play jokes on people, but her warm heart and zest for life made everyone love her. No one in her family will remember a time when she refused to give help when it was needed.

Margaret and Clarence owned and operated Osen's Corner Grocery Store in River Falls for many years until it closed in 1969; then Margaret worked for St. Paul Companies from 1969 until 1980. Clarence and Margaret then made their winter home in Arizona.

Their family was especially appreciative of being able to visit them and enjoy the Arizona sun while hiking, sightseeing, rock/gem hunting, and listening to the great jam sessions at the Lost Dutchman. Margaret loved their roses, friends and winters in Apache Junction.

Margaret is survived by her four children, Richard (Arlene) Osen, Tom (Kathy) Osen, Carolyn (Jim) Hartmon, and Cheryl (Dan) Christiansen; eight grandchildren, Tom (Angie) Osen, Stacey (TJ) Callaway, Debbie (Joe) Murtha, Brenda (Matt) Briggs, Janelle (Mike) Pizzi, Rachel (Matt) Woehrle, Monica Christiansen, and Brian Christiansen; 11 great-grandchildren, Tanner and Peyton Osen, James and Jacob Murtha, Matthew, Ryan, and Tyler Briggs, Brooklynn and Braden Pizzi, Justin and Dylan Woehrle, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents, William and Grace Owens; brother, Don Owens; sister, Florence Sather; and grandchild, Jason.

Funeral services for Margaret were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Cross Lutheran Church in Roberts with Reverend Dean Simpson officiating. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, River Falls with her grandchildren as pallbearers. Visitation was from 2 p.m. until the time of the service at Cross Lutheran on Saturday.

Margaret's family would like to send a sincere thank you to the staff and volunteers at American Heritage Care Center for the love shown towards Mother. A special thank you to her roommate, Ethel Graham, for her loving companionship.
