Man buys moped, then allegedly drinks, smokes and crashes
A 20-year-old UWRF student allegedly lost control of his newly-purchased moped on East Cascade Avenue Saturday evening, May 10, striking a curb and getting tossed into a median tree.
The man, taken to the hospital by ambulance, said his moped got the “speed wobbles” while doing 30 mph.
An officer who rode with the college student in the ambulance said he smelled of marijuana and alcohol.
The young man allegedly said he was drinking earlier in the day and smoking pot shortly before trying out the moped.
The man had just got the moped on the day of crashing it.
He was cited for driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
