Main Street gears up for St. Patty’s bash
Downtown River Falls will be the site for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day from 1-8 p.m. Monday, March 17.
The festivities get started with the Pot O’ Gold Medallion Hunt. First clue is posted at Veterans Park at 1 p.m.
The one who finds the hidden medallion wins $50 in “Chamber Checks.”
The Potato Soup Cookoff is from 1-5 p.m. People can try soup from participating businesses, vote on their favorite and enter to win prizes.
By 6 p.m. you can cheer your team during the fourth annual bed races.
The racing, which goes right down Main Street, is considered “a don’t miss event” by the many spectators.
There’s also the Patty O’ Poker Walk for card players beginning at 1 p.m. and ending at 5 p.m. at Veterans Park.
Players pick up “poker cards” from local participating bars and draw a card from each to form a hand.
The player with the winning poker hand will receive a free drink from each of the bars. The announcement of the winner happens after the bed race competition.
Chamber of Commerce Event & Program Coordinator Maranda Mahr said it’s due to the efforts of so many downtown businesses that St. Patrick’s Day in River Falls has lots of entertaining fun.
“We appreciate everyone who is involved in making this event a success,” Mahr said. “The Main Street bed races have become one of the events that River Falls has become known for.
“We encourage everyone to come out for the afternoon and celebrate with us.”
Mahr says that for those still interested in participating in the bed races or the Potato Soup Crawl, they have until Friday, March 7 to sign up.
