Luck leads to prized River Falls Days find
River Falls Wisconsin 2815 Prairie Drive / P.O. Box 25 54022

When the first clue went up at 9 a.m. Friday, July 12, River Falls Days medallion hunters took off on foot, bike and in cars to be the lucky ones to score the prize money -- $200 or $250 with a River Falls Days button.

When the day was done and after five clues, the medallion was found in an unexpected place by an unexpected group.

Grandmother, Patricia LaRue of River Falls and her three grandchildren, Ella (5) and Louie (9) Falardeaux, of New Richmond; and Cal DuMond (5), of Hudson, were on their way to the place that most families were going Friday evening -- the parade route.

Prior to getting to the parade, the family parked at the White Pathway parking lot and ventured across Winter Street for an up-close look of the dam and falls.

According to LaRue she went over to the now empty power plant building to peek in. While looking through the windows, LaRue said she looked down and saw something taped to the flowerbox.

While LaRue "felt guilty," about finding something she was not looking for, River Falls Chamber CEO Chris Blasius, says it is just part of the fun.

"One of the great features about River Falls Days, is there are often fun things found when you're not even looking," she said.

After the parade the family collected their $200, and had pizza at Steve's Pizza Palace. At this point laRue is not sure what they will do with the remaining prize money.

Blasius offered her suggestion, "With luck like that, I hope she went out and purchased a Powerball ticket with her winnings."
