Lowered flags remember Pearl Harbor
President Obama issued a proclamation for the U.S. Flag to fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, December 7, in observance of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
While the 1941 attack tested the resilience of America's military forces, it also fortified the country and its resolve to defend freedom at home and abroad. Citizens observe National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day to honor the more than 3,500 Americans killed or wounded during that deadly attack, as well as pay tribute to those whose courage ensured the nation's recovery.
The proclamations encourage all Americans to observe this solemn day of remembrance and to honor past and present military members with flags at half-staff, as well as appropriate ceremonies and activities.
