Lorraine Elizabeth Marie Thoner, age 80, of Ellsworth, Wis., died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at United Hospital, St. Paul, Minn.

Lorraine was born on Nov. 18, 1929, in Stockholm, Wis., the daughter of Robert and Ruth (Anderson) Hjerpe. Lorraine's family lived in Washington, D.C., as her father was in the Secret Service for a period of time. When Lorraine was 9, her mother died; Lorraine then went to live with her aunt and uncle, Roy and Edna Hjerpe back in Ellsworth, where they lived at the Ellsworth Bakery. She was a 1947 graduate of Ellsworth High School. On Sept. 3, 1949, she married Virgil Thoner at Bethel Covenant Church.

Lorraine loved to travel, visiting every state with the exception of Alaska. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren, quilting, sewing, and church activities. She was a member of Zion Covenant Church and served on the Zion Church Cheer Committee for many years.

Lorraine is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 60 years, Virgil; three sons and one daughter, Steven (Roxanne) Thoner, Bryan (Kathy) Thoner, Jacquelyn(Dan) Wallace, Alan (LuAnn) Thoner; 11 grandchildren, Nick (Cindy) Wallace, Janelle (Travis) Niebeling, Lindsay Wallace, Katie (Todd) VanGuerrin, Karen Thoner, Jeff (Natasha) Thoner, Jeri Ann Thoner, Anika (Andrew) Borner, Mitchell Thoner, Amanda (Ryan) Dodge, Dewey Thoner; three great-grandchildren, Jacob VanGuerrin, Reese Wallace, Logan Niebeling.

Her parents, Robert and Ruth, and aunt and uncle, Roy and Edna, preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Lorraine will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 16, at Zion Covenant Church, Ellsworth. Rev. Corey Johnsrud will officiate. Burial will be in the Bethel Covenant Cemetery, Ellsworth. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Zion Covenant Church in the fellowship hall, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Memorials are preferred to World Vision or Zion Covenant Church Building Fund.

Pallbearers will be Gary Nelson, Wayne Nelson, Randy Bostrom, Mark Place, Brent Place, Dean Anderson.
