Longtime River Falls resident Dana Pruitt introduced a new non-profit concept last spring in which he collects used baby items to recycle, refurbish and/or rebuild then donate to places that need them, such as the local emergency shelter Our Neighbors' Place and the local domestic abuse shelter Turningpoint.

In some cases he rebuilds or repairs faulty, old or recalled cribs and other furniture. Other items he disassembles to recycle their parts - be they metal, plastic or usable as replacements. Pruitt sells scrap metal from the donated items, using the proceeds to give cash gifts and buy small supplies such as glue, bolts and parts.

Pruitt, the 10-year custodian at Westside Elementary, wants not only to help the people and places that may need free baby items, but also to keep big trash from going to the landfills.

Pictured is Pruitt donating $770 to Our Neighbor's Place. He said he is deeply grateful to the people who have donated items for him to rework and asks that people continue spreading the word.

Pruitt said he'd appreciate people contacting him with any baby items they might otherwise toss out at the citywide Spring Cleanup event May 13-18. Reach him by calling 715-425-5019 or 715-821-0374.
