Local firm builds business, wins EDC award
Mike Tasker, NCCM vice president, and Brent Niccum, president/CEO, stand in the company's production room. Behind them is the early phase where industrial mill rolls are sized and cut for customer orders. NCCM has 15 full-time employees and a handful or part-timers. Tasker said the company tries to hire locally, pays above-market wages with benefits, is community focused and plans to eventually expand in space leased from what was the old Kolpak walk-in freezer plant, 715 St. Croix St. NCCM was created from a management buyout of a product line 3M operated for 20 years in Prairie du Chien. Tasker and Niccum acquired the business a year ago and transitioned the manufacturing to River Falls in three stages.
NCCM's success hasn't escaped notice. An evaluating team from the St. Croix County Economic Development Corporation named the company the 2009 Emerging Business of the Year.
NCCM, Baldwin Telecom and Somerset-base Scientific Molding Corp. will receive top business awards at the annual St. Croix EDC honors banquet next Thursday night. The banquet will be held the University Center ballroom at UW-River Falls.
