'Little Mermaid Jr.' continues to delight audiences everywhere, starts Feb. 8 in Hudson
The Phipps Children's Theater will produce the area premier of Disney's "The Little Mermaid, Jr.," featuring music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and the book by Doug Wright, which is based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen and the Disney film, Feb. 8-24 at The Phipps Center for the Arts.
The story of the little mermaid who wanted to be human has delighted audiences around the world since it was first published in 1837 by Hans Christian Andersen in the second edition of his short stories collection "Fairy Tales, Told for Children."
Director John H. Potter explains, "This adaptation retains all the great characters of the animated film, but alters the plot a bit. 'The Little Mermaid, Jr.' is all about the music.
Performances are set for Feb. 8-24 on Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., as well as Sundays at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for students 13 and older as well as seniors, and $15 for children 4-12 years old, with a $2 discount for the opening weekend.
