In last week’s Journal I was quoted as saying that Only shotguns would be legal in Metro Hunting Zones like 60M. I was referencing a DNR Fall Hunting newsletter.
Now, according to the DNR “hotline,” rifles are legal to use statewide starting Nov 1. No exception is made for Metro Zones.
I’m convinced that rifles can be as safe as shotguns but hunters need to follow the four basic rules of safety that they learned in Hunter Safety.
—Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction
—Treat every firearm like it is loaded
—Keep your finger away from the trigger until you are ready to shoot
—Know your target and what’s beyond it. (A bullet from either a shotgun or a rifle can travel a mile beyond your target)
Be safe. Enjoy the hunt.
