Letter: How we learn
Teachers. Really, how important are they?
Our family has had the opportunity to travel to Third World countries over the years. During one of our treks, we stopped to watch children gathered around learning their lesson in math.
They sat along a stone wall, under a tree with sticks in their hands scratching into the dirt. There were no pencils, there was no paper, there was no roof, there was no school bus, there was no LED scoreboard for the football field.
But, what was there? The single thing that is absolutely necessary for children to learn -- a teacher.
