Letter: Going green can be costly
I used to live in River Falls and over the past few months my mother has been telling me about the future green community center with the projected price tag of $9 million. I have since dubbed it the eco-Taj Mahal.
The new Sarasota police headquarters here in Florida is a green building that is LEED certified. However, the building is costing taxpayers in excess of $300,000 a year in electricity costs. So being LEED certified does not necessarily mean that a building will be energy efficient.
I wonder if and when the community center is built how long it will take to justify costing $9 million?
In closing, it sounds as if people will spend a lot of green to go green before and after construction.
