Letter: Don’t overlook these hateful public expressions

We are writing to you about a hate crime that has been occurring in Martell. Stop signs have been defaced with Nazi Swastikas.

Not only is destroying public property a misdemeanor, but the swastikas enhance the punishment with jail time and a $10,000 fine. Wisconsin Statutes are very clear in regard to this type of crime.

This past weekend, Nov. 9 and 10, was the 75th Anniversary of the Kristallnacht violence in Nazi Germany, which began the Holocaust against Jews, gays, lesbians and people with disabilities.

Tragically there has been a rise in anti-Semitic activity in this country and in Europe. None of us can sit idle or look away when anyone’s human rights and civil rights are so blatantly threatened.

Thank you, community of River Falls and Pierce County. We trust you will speak out against these actions calling for an end to hatred. This will restore trust to our region.
