Letter: Buy poppies, wear proudly
I want to remind people that May is Poppy Month. The American Legion Auxiliary will be offering poppies on Sunday, May 16, at various stations around town. There will be donation cans in many businesses.
All funds from the poppy distributions will go for the rehabilitation of veterans honorably discharged from the Armed Forces after April 6, 1917.
The Legion Auxiliary is very involved with the welfare of veterans' families and the rehabilitation of hospitalized servicemen returning home awaiting discharge.
The poppy is made by disabled veterans in hospitals and poppy workrooms in 40 states (including Wisconsin). Materials are furnished by the sponsoring state auxiliary department, and the hard workers (veterans) are paid for each poppy made. The donations received amount to more than $2,000,000 annually nationwide.
We sincerely hope that the public will respond generously as one way to pay tribute to all who died in service or who are severely injured and need our help. Wear a poppy proudly!
