Letter: All aspects of young coach point to the word: Winner
The foundation is being set for River Falls High School wrestling to be a dominant team in western Wisconsin as well as the entire state once again.
I coached with two Hall-of-Fame caliber coaches in Spring Valley’s Carter Turner and our own River Falls Dave Brandvold.
With the direction Kevin Black has this program going, I have no doubt it will be a dominate program once again.
I was out of coaching wrestling for two years with not much interest in getting back in. It is a very long season with a lot of time away, but when Kevin asked if I would be his assistant coach, I was intrigued.
I was a young coach when Kevin was competing in high school and at the University of Wisconsin, I thought his approach to the kids, his style of coaching and competing, were all traits I would love to be a part of.
Kevin has a plan for everything in the training — from day one all the way to the end of the season. No other coach I have been associated with has that level of knowledge and commitment to the kids at making all of them better.
With what he is doing with the wrestling program, many other programs will benefit at River Falls High School. Kevin brings a culture of success and a very high level of expectation for all the kids.
I am the head softball coach at RFHS. I asked Kevin to be an assistant coach with the softball team because of those traits.
Winners like Kevin will raise the levels of other kids to higher levels to become winners themselves. Those are the people and coaches I want to be associated with.
