For the first time, less than half of Wisconsinites approve of the job President Obama is doing.

Survey USA polled 600 Wisconsin adults last week, and 45 percent gave the president a favorable rating.

That's down from 50 percent in the last poll a 1.5 months ago.

Fifty-percent said they disapproved, the highest since the Democrat Obama took office.

Only 35 percent of Wisconsin independents gave the president a positive rating. That figure has been going down nationally, especially since his health care reform plans took a beating in August, when members of Congress heard from the folks back home.

The administration said Wednesday that Obama will get more specific about what he wants in a health reform plan and he'll address a joint session of Congress on the subject next Wednesday night.

The White House says it will look to simplify the major Democratic proposals by making care more affordable, requiring coverage for those with pre-existing conditions at a reasonable cost, and dropping non-essential parts of the plan that drew heavy fire in recent weeks.

But for now, the White House says it will still insist on a government insurance option to compete with private plans.
