Larry J. Petersen, 101
Larry J. Petersen, 101, of River Falls, died on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at the Cornell Area Care Center in Cornell.
Larry was born the son of Hans and Carrie (Gregerson) Petersen on Nov. 27, 1907, in the town of Hudson.
He graduated from Hudson High School with the class of 1925.
On January 28, 1938, Larry was married to Mary Kathryn "Bea" Gutzler in Stillwater, Minn. They were blessed with two children, Bruce and Nanci.
Larry worked his entire career for Ford Motor Company's local River Falls dealership. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, the Moose Lodge and the Lions Club.
He loved all sports. In his younger years he boxed, was a ski jumper and played tennis. Larry enjoyed cheering for the Vikings, trout fishing on the Kinni, and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Carrie Petersen; his wife, Bea Petersen; three brothers and five sisters.
He is survived by his son, Bruce (Linda) Petersen of Holts Summit, Mo.; daughter, Nanci (Ross) Nelson of Cornell; grandchildren: Derrick (Holly) Petersen, Kirstin (Brian) Benedict, Nathanial (Heather) Petersen, Mollie (Jon) Lindquist, Bret Engel, Traci (Mat) Lesneski, Jaimi Engel, Tami Herum, and Mark Nelson; 10 great-grandchildren; and many more relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, at the Bakken-Young Funeral Home in River Falls.
Memorial visitation will be from 3-4 p.m., with the Moose Lodge Funeral Rite at 3 p.m. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
