Kathleen (Kelly) Strand, 85
Kathleen Patritia Strand (nee Riley), always known as "Kelly," age 85, of Hammond, Wis., passed away on June 14 at Comforts of Home in River Falls, Wis.
Kelly was born on Sept. 5, 1927, in Baldwin, Wis., to Genevieve and Edward Riley of Erin Prairie.
She started school at Dry Run - Erin. Her father, Edward, was killed in a car accident in 1932, and two years later, she went to live with her aunt and uncle William and Patricia Christenson in Chippewa Falls, Wis. For her 6th grade, she returned home to her family in Hammond and graduated from Hammond High in 1945 in a class of 11. She always joked she was in the top ten. She attended River Falls State College for a year, then worked at Brown & Bigelow in St. Paul until 1950 and later at Hammond State Bank until 1954. She married Lyle Strand at St. Mary's Hammond in 1952. Born to this union were five children: Lori, Patrick, Joni, Daniel, and Thomas. In 1971, she started work at Baldwin Hospital and retired in 1992.
Kelly's greatest love was her family and friends. Fun was her hobby and spontaneous was the best way to describe her.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Lyle, in 1989; her parents; her brother Jack; in-laws Muriel Riley, Les Vanda, Esther Blossom, Hazelle (Bill) Carroll, Cloyd (Helen) Strand, Arthur and Thomas Strand, Cecil Boumeester, and Dick Trauley; special god-child, Elaine Riley; nephew Mark Mezinskis; and all of her aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lori (Greg) Loney of River Falls and Joni (Kevin) Herum of River Falls; three sons, Patrick Strand of Hammond, Daniel (Lori) Strand of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Thomas (Michele) Strand of Hammond; grandchildren, Luke, Maggie, Molly, and Morgan Loney, Katie, Marty, and Jack Herum, Shea and Brooke Strand; sisters, Rosemary Vanda, Helen (Patrick) Donahue; brother Ted Riley; sisters-in-laws Ollie Riley, Dorothy Trauley, Dorothy Strand; along with many loving nieces and nephews.
