Journal requests candidates list; city to publicize names this week
A list of the "five leading candidates" for the vacant city administrator position will be made available to the public Friday.
Bernie Van Osdale retired from the position last month. The city's search for his successor, using a paid consultant, has screened and reduced the number of applicants to five.
Interviews of the five will be done by the City Council in closed session Thursday night.
Last week the Journal made an open-records request for the names of the candidates and where they work.
After checking with the city attorney, Interim City Administrator Julie Bergstrom said the list of the final five would be given to the paper after the candidates were interviewed. She said this process was in keeping with state law.
