Jerry shines at Senior Class Tourney
Wildcat senior Casey Jerry scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the Section 1 team's 4-2 victory over Section 6 in the third place game at the Wisconsin Senior Class Tournament in Waupun March 24.
Jerry, who earned First team All-State and All-Big Rivers Conference honors with the Wildcats this season, was one of ten area players on the Section 1 team coached by former River Falls coach Brooks Lockwood of Hudson.
Also playing for Section 1 were Emerson Korum, August Nuutinen, Daniel Tripicchio and Josh Mattis of BRC champion Hudson, Michael Bodsberg, Kaleb Kier, Tyler Lagerstrom and Austin Zywiec of New Richmond, and Jordan Langness of Somerset.
The Wisconsin Senior Class Tournament showcases the top senior talent in the state of Wisconsin and is the first step towards picking players to play for Team Wisconsin in the Minnesota CCM National Invitational Tournament April 26-28 in Plymouth, Minn. Teams are divided according to the eight WIAA sectionals.
Section 1 took third place out of the eight teams in the tournament. Section 1 opened play with a 7-3 win over Section 5 on Friday, March 22, before suffering its only loss, 6-4, in the semifinals to Section 7 Saturday, March 23. They defeated Section 6, 4-2, in Sunday's third place game.
Section 7 defeated Section 8 in Sunday's championship game by a 12-1 score.
Jerry, Tripicchio and Zywiec were selected to play for Team Wisconsin at the Minnesota CCM National Invitational Tournament April 26-28 in Plymouth, Minn. Lockwood will also serve as a coach for the team. Other teams at the tournament will include Minnesota, North Dakota, Michigan, Massachusetts, and Minnesota U-18.
Team Wisconsin will open play against Michigan Friday, April 26, at 3:30 p.m. at the Plymouth Ice Center. They will play Massachusetts Saturday, April 27 at 10:15 a.m. and Minnesota Saturday, April 27, at 8 p.m. before concluding play Sunday against an opponent to be determined.
