Howard "Howie" Nordahl Nelson, 88";
Howard "Howie" Nordahl Nelson, age 88, of Baldwin, Wis., died Thursday, Oct. 31, at the home of his daughter in McAllen, Texas.
He was born on March 4, 1925, in the town of Cady, St. Croix County, Wis., the son of Alfred and Mary (Knight) Nelson. Howard served his country in the U.S. Army from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He married Marilyn Marsh on June 20, 1949, at First Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth. He farmed from 1941 until 1960, and from 1960 on he worked for West Publishing, retiring in 1984.
Howard is survived by his seven children: Sandy (Gene) Littrell, Sindy (Dan) Osterman, Gregory (Barb) Nelson, Sherry (Larry) Eiswirth, Gene (Terri) Nelson, Shannon (Ernie) Kunesh, and Stephanie Nelson (George Manke); brothers and sisters in-law: Harold Graf, Mary Nelson, and Coyde (Viola) Marsh, Jr.; Gloria (Doug) Stockwell, and Nancy (Ron) Rabine; grandchildren, Patrick, Kenny, Dana, Jason, Holly-Anne, Christopher, Jeffrey, Amanda, Trina, Trenton, Matthew, Laura, Andrea, and Daniel; 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Marilyn; a grandson Bradley Welch; his parents; twin brother Harold; brothers Seymour, Phillip, and Albert; and sisters Dorothy Hoyt, and Phyllis Graff.
Funeral services for Howard will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, at New Centerville United Methodist Church, County Rd. M, Baldwin, Wis. Burial will be in the Beldenville Cemetery, Beldenville, Wis. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, at the Cashman-Hill Funeral Home, River Falls, Wis., and for one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Saturday.
Military honors will be provided by the Veterans of River Falls, Wis.
