Houlton woman dies in Monday afternoon crash
A Houlton woman died in a two-vehicle crash at 2:12 p.m. Monday, May 13, in St. Joseph Township.
According to a press release from the St. Croix County Sheriff's office, a 2011 Hyundai Accent, driven by Darlene Breault, 74, of Houlton was leaving the parking lot at 1415 Main St. in Houlton when it was struck by a 2004 Mazda Tribute, driven by Becky Lee Markfort, 27, New Richmond.
Both vehicles came to rest on the median cement divider. Breault was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner's office. This is the fourth fatal accident of 2013 in St. Croix County.
Markfort was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Her condition was not available.
A passenger in the Markfort vehicle, Michelle C. Frazee, 35, New Richmond, was uninjured.
All occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. Airbags were deployed in both vehicles.
Assisting at the scene of the crash were St. Joseph Fire and Rescue and Lakeview EMS. The crash remains under investigation by the St. Croix Sheriff's office.
