High waters bring no-wake order for boaters
Pierce County Sheriff Nancy Hove has declared an emergency no-wake order on the Mississippi river and associated backwaters from Prescott to Maiden Rock.
Hove gave the order Wednesday, June 25. She said it was to "preserve property and protect life" and added: "This no-wake order will remain in effect until the water level recedes." Hove said water levels need to remain below 11 feet as measured at the official gauge site in Red Wing, Minn. Current and predicted river levels can be viewed at www.weather.gov. "Floating debris and swift currents make boating during high-water events exceptionally hazardous," she said.
