Herum signed by Arizona Diamondbacks
Former Wildcat all-state baseball player and two-time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year Marty Herum of River Falls signed a pro contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks Thursday, July 25.
Herum reported to the Diamondbacks Arizona Rookie League team in Scottsdale, Ariz., Friday, July 26.
Herum finished his sophomore season at UW-Whitewater this past spring, where he batted .413 in 42 games with seven home runs and 43 RBI.
Herum was named to the 2013 D3baseball.com Division-III All-American Second Team and was also named the D3baseball.com Midwest Region Player of the Year while earning WIAC Player of the Year honors for the second straight season. In 2012, he was named D3baseball Midwest Region Rookie of the Year.
Following the collegiate season, Herum played briefly with the Lakeshore Chinooks of the Northwoods League before returning for his third season with the River Falls Fighting Fish of the St. Croix Valley Baseball League. In nine games with the Fish this summer, Herum batted .657 (25-for-38) with six doubles, two triples and 15 RBI.
