H. James Pratt, 81
H. James Pratt, 81, of River Falls, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at River Falls Area Hospital.
He was born the son of Harold and Florence (Jenks) Pratt on June 21, 1928, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
On March 17, 1979, Jim married Jeanne Brophy in River Falls. He worked for 3M for 34 years retiring in 1987. For 38 years, Jim recorded for the Minnesota Radio Talking Book Network (Communication Center for the State Services for the Blind) and volunteered for many years reading the newspaper to the residents at the Kinnic Home. His family says, "He was always doing something for somebody."
Jim and Jeanne frequently volunteered for the Tuesday Banquet and he enjoyed driving people to and from the community dinner. Jim was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church, singing in the church choir and a member of the Kiwanis Club. He loved to read and listen to classical music.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Leah Dickinson.
Jim is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jeanne; daughters: Jeanne (Jerry) Hautala, Patti Brophy, and Diana Curtis; sons: Ian Pratt and Chris (Jeanne) Pratt; grandchildren: Jeremy (Lindsay) Dumond, Jessica Vadnais, Corey Pratt, Andy Pratt, Ellen Dickinson, and Kat (Jorge) Serafin; great-grandson, Jack Dumond; and brother, Bob (Joyce) Pratt.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 21, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in River Falls.
Memorial visitation will also be on Friday from 1-2 p.m. at the church.
