The Wildcat gymnastics team picked a good time to put together its best score of the season last Thursday, Feb. 7.

In the final Big Rivers Conference dual meet between the only two remaining undefeated teams in the conference, the Wildcats defeated Rice Lake/Cumberland 138.975 to 136.75 to clinch the regular season BRC championship.

Both teams will be in action against this Saturday, Feb. 16 at the BRC Championship Tournament in Chippewa Falls.

"What a great meet!" Wildcat coach Rachel Paulson said about last Thursday's win. "It's amazing to still be improving our team scores at this point in the season. The girls are very excited to be in the gym working hard to prepare for the BRC Tournament, and Thursday's win motivated them to continue with their hard work."

Senior Riley Claude led the way by placing first in three of the four individual events and winning the all-around with a total score of 36.475. Claude took first on the uneven bars with a 9.35, the balance beam with 9.25 and the vault with 8.75 while finishing second to junior Karlie Place in the floor exercise with 9.125. Place won the event with 9.3.

Place also contributed scores of 8.9 on bars, 8.5 on beam and 8.45 on vault.

Junior Kinsy Sylla turned in a score of 8.55 on the balance beam while sophomore Karin Sollom boosted the Cats' team total with scores of 8.625 on bars, 8.35 on vault and 8.075 on beam.

Sophomore Kelly Maier contributed an 8.5 on the balance beam and senior Lauren Slowiak scored 7.9 on bars while junior Taylor Rose had a high of 8.3 in the vault.

The four Wildcat seniors -- Slowiak, Claude, Abby Thompson and Anita Fraser -- were honored on Senior Night in the Cats' last home dual meet of the season.

The coaches have been extremely proud of the seniors and their stand-out leadership qualities," Paulson said. "It is hard to be a senior with two new coaches but they went out of their way to welcome their coaches and push for a great season."

Following Saturday's BRC Tournament in Chippewa Falls, the Wildcats will host a WIAA Division 2 sectional meet Thursday, Feb. 21, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the high school.
