Greenwood Elementary School is set for its fourth annual Great Greenwood Giveaway from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26.
The Great Giveaway event is a one day free garage sale open to the entire community.
Everything shoppers find displayed on tables is given away free!
It’s organized each year by Greenwood students and staff. They work together to create and distribute flyers, collect, sort, and organize items, help shoppers locate items they need and then carry merchandise to cars.
Greenwood Principal Nate Schurman says there’s a teachable purpose behind the Great Giveaway.
“Greenwood has really grasped onto the idea that it’s important to provide our students with opportunities to think about others, and to do things for others when we can,” he said. “We tell our kids just because they are little doesn’t mean they can’t make a big difference in the lives of others.”
Schurman adds that teachable moments are heightened when there’s actual doing, saying: “We continue to involve our students in service work because we feel the learning opportunities are much greater when participating in the activity as opposed to just learning about things other people have done.”
