Gene Cudd, 79
Eugene "Gene" Cudd, age 79, of Hudson, Wis., and formerly of River Falls, Wis., passed away peacefully at his residence on Jan. 1, 2010. He began the new year in Heaven with the love of his life, Clarice.
Gene was born Oct. 17, 1930, in Beldenville, Wis., to parents John Huntley Cudd and Hannah Louise (Johnson) Cudd. Gene attended school in River Falls. Gene honorably served his country in the Army during the Korean War. Gene would be united in marriage to Clarice Ann Hanvelt on April 28, 1951, at a ceremony at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in River Falls. Their union in marriage would be blessed with seven children: a son and six daughters.
Many people remember Gene as a hard-working man who spent many years self-employed doing excavating work and septic pumping. When he wasn't working, Gene enjoyed hunting and fishing, and being a Wisconsin sports fan, cheering on the Badgers, the Packers, and the Brewers. Gene spent time metal detecting, and was extremely fond of feeding and watching birds. He traveled to Las Vegas on occasion and liked to play Keno. When at home with friends and family, he liked to play cards, cribbage, shake dice, and play the Lottery. Spring through Fall, Gene could be found out and about the town on his scooter, and when he was at home, Gene loved to bake all kinds of goods for friends and family and was especially known for his wonderful upside-down pineapple cake. Gene will be remembered for being a great family man, and leaving a great legacy of love and laughter for his family to carry on.
Gene is survived by his son, Steven (Gail) Cudd of Tomahawk, Wis.; his daughters, Nancy (Robert) Cramer of Hudson, Debbie Cudd of Hudson, Julie (Neil) Ribar of Minneapolis, Becky (Wayne) Koepke of Hudson, Mary (Ben) Morgan of Hudson, and Jenny (Fred) Hauser of Hudson; grandchildren, Jessica, Melissa, Stephanie, Abby, Jessie, Sammi, Jack, Nick, Haley, Max, Jarod, Anna, Steven, and Kevin; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Dylan, and Devin; brother, John (Dorothy) Cudd of River Falls; sister, Arlene Hilden of River Falls; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Cudd of Hudson, Janet Cudd of River Falls, Connie Cudd of River Falls, and Romaine Schone of River Falls; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and good friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Clarice; his parents; his brothers, Herb, Walter, Paul, and Tom; and his sisters, Helen and Alice.
