Carol and Dick Rinehart have owned and operated Dick’s Fresh Market, (formerly Dick’s IGA), 1121 S. Main St., since the early 1980s.
The Rineharts’ adult children – Michelle, Lisa and Doug – now have prominent roles operating not only the grocery store in River Falls, but also stores in Amery and Osceola.
Carol and Dick Rinehart were married for 54 years. They met at Cedarburg High School.
Compared to Dick’s more outgoing nature, Carol, with a background in banking, was often the publicly silent partner in their grocery store business.
During a Journal interview in August 2012, Carol was described as waving a hand of dismissal as Dick called her “the woman behind the man” and added that she was an integral part of Dick’s Fresh Market’s success.
The published interview coincided with their grocery store ownership’s 30th anniversary in River Falls.
Editor's note: Several have posted comments expressing their concern on the Journal's Facebook page, including:
Lori Harshman Colburn: "My thoughts and prayers go out to the Rinehart family I am sorry for your loss."
Amy Flanigan: "So sad to hear of Carol's passing. She was such a nice person who always would say hello and wave as we would pass her. Keeping Dick and the entire family in our thoughts and prayers."
Joe Raehsler: "This was a great great lady."
Riverwalk Art and Antiques: "We are so very sorry to hear about Carol's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the Rinehart family."
