Former River Falls mayor jumps in, all city races are contested
Each of the four River Falls City Council races will have two candidates. In one, for District 3 (wards 6, 7 and 8), former Mayor Katie Chaffee will oppose incumbent David Reese. In another, for council member at-large, Diane Odeen, who unsuccessfully challenged 30th state Assemblymen Dean Knudson last November, will run against incumbent Randy Kusilek.
Candidate filings for local races closed at the end of the day Wednesday, Jan. 3.
Council members David Cronk and Jim Nordgren will also face challenges for their seats for the April spring elections.
In the town of Kinnickinnic, Town Board Chairman Roger Van Beek chose not to run again. Gerald (Jerry) Olson was the only candidate who filed to succeed him.
In the town of Troy, Town Board Chairman Ray Knapp is stepping down. Two candidates filed to succeed him: Dan Pearson, a former Town Board member, and David Hense, a current Town Board member.
For River Falls school board, only the two incumbents filed to run for the two open seats: Manny Kenney and Dennis Behnke.
