Fishing contest in Prescott this Saturday
The Prescott Kiwanis Club is hosting the 15th annual kids fishing contest from 9-11 a.m this Saturday.
Registration will be at Mercord Mill Park at 8:30 a.m. All entrants must be accompanied by an adult and bring their own fishing equipment and life vest. Prizes will be awarded in four age groups: 4 and under, 5-8, 9-12 and 13 and up.
Fish size will be judged on weight alone and all fish will be released unless they are of legal size limit and the accompanying adult approves. Entry into the contest is free and all entrants will receive some type of entry premium. Food, coffee and soft drinks will be on sale during the contest by the Boy Scouts.
There is no advanced registration and complete rules will be available at the contest site. Entrants will fish from public land in the City of Prescott. There will also be four learning stations running from 10 a.m. -1 p.m.
Learn how to ID fish, knot tying, and general equipment usage and maintenance, casting practice station and a casting contest. The learning stations are sponsored by the High School Fishing Club and the Prescott Sportsman's Club.
The Kiwanis Club is a nationally affiliated service organization seeking to better their local communities through various service projects. The Prescott Kiwanis Club has a special emphasis on programs involving and helping children in the community. The club meets Thursdays at noon at the Ambulance Building. Visitors are welcome.
Wisconsin free fishing weekend is this Saturday and Sunday. People can fish without a license throughout the State of Wisconsin during this annual event. All the waters of the state are open, including state waters of the Great Lakes and rivers bordering Wisconsin. Residents and nonresidents of all ages can fish without a fishing license over these two days. However, all other fishing regulations (length limits, bag limits, etc.) apply.
