Fish open May 3
The River Falls Fighting Fish will open the 2009 season on the road at Pine Island, Minn., on Sunday, May 3, at 2 p.m.
The Fish will open their second season in River Falls with a 1 p.m. game on Saturday, May 16, against the Menomonie Eagles. The team will hold an open tryout at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, at the River Falls High School varsity field.
The Fish will play nine home games this season, including taking on the River Falls American Legion Team in an exhibition game Thursday, July 9.
The Fish will once again compete in the St. Croix Valley Baseball League this season, which added the Hager City Skeeters to its lineup to make for a 16-game league schedule. The Fish will play seven of their 16 league games at home.
Last year the Fish finished with an 8-7 league record to earn a Wisconsin Baseball Association playoff berth. WBA playoff berths and seedings are determined based on each team's league record. In a typical season, an above .500 record is good enough for an at-large bid.
The Fish will hold their last meat raffle fundraiser of the offseason Friday, April 24, at 6:30 p.m. at Johnnie's Bar.
