Fighting Fish advance to WBA finals

The River Falls Fighting Fish won both their games at the Wisconsin Baseball Association regional playoffs in Rib Lake over the weekend to advance to the finals of the WBA State Tournament this weekend, Aug. 16-18, in Osceola.

The Fish defeated the Jim Falls Sturgeons, 5-4, last Saturday and knocked off the La Crosse 35ers, 9-2, Sunday to earn a spot in the eight-team championship weekend.

The Fish will take on St. Croix Valley Baseball League rival Prescott in a WBA quarterfinal game Friday, Aug. 16, at 9 p.m. at Oakey Park in Osceola. The host Osceola Braves will face the Sparta Millers in the first game Friday at 6:30 p.m. The winner of Friday night’s games will meet in a semifinal game Saturday, Aug. 17, at 4:30 p.m.

Four of the seven SCVBL teams that qualified for the postseason advanced to this weekend’s finals. In addition to River Falls, Prescott and Osceola, the Menomonie Eagles will play the Haugen Knights Saturday at 10 a.m. The other quarterfinal game will pit the Brill Millers against the Chaseburg-Coon Valley Blues Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
