Softball sweeps Stout

The UW-River Falls softball team earned a WIAC sweep at UW-Stout Thursday afternoon.

The Falcons won the first game, 7-2, and the second game, 4-3. UW-RF scored a run in the top of the seventh to get the win in the second game.

The team's non-conference doubleheader against Ripon was rained out on Saturday.

The Falcons played a WIAC doubleheader at UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday and will play another conference twin bill at Ramer Field against UW-Superior Wednesday.

On Saturday the Falcons play at UW-Oshkosh and on Sunday they are at UW-Whitewater.

In last week's 7-2 win over Stout, Rose Tusa started on the mound and got the win, working the first six innings and allowing two earned runs and five hits.

Jessica Lundgren finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Patty Olson, Hayley Buchanan and Ashley Goettl were all 2-for-4. Buchanan had two RBI.

In the nightcap, Buchanan led off the top of the seventh with a double down the left field line and Goettl followed with a double to left center to score Buchanan and give the Falcons a 4-3 victory. Tusa picked up the win in relief.

Falcon track records fall

The Falcon sprint medley relay team destroyed the school record while competing at the Drake Relays Saturday. The team of Sophie Lasko, Samantha Nyre, Natasha Arnold and Leah Korf finished in 4 minutes, 3.5 seconds. The previous record was 4:16.88, set in 1999. The team placed eighth among 23 teams in the race.

The 4x400 relay team of Alyssa Rasmussen, Nyre, Kali Meurer and Arnold finished eighth in the finals with a time of 3:53.96. The team ran a school record 3:53.78 on Friday to qualify for the finals.

The Falcon 4x100 relay team also set a school record Friday but failed to reach the finals. The team of Meurer, Sophie Lasko, Jennifer Aronson and Nyre ran a 49.51. They placed third in their heat, but did not advance. The old Falcon record was 49.74 set in 2001.

Derren Izdepski of the men's team competed at the St. Mary's Open and set a school record in the hammer throw. He threw 165-feet, 7-inches to break his own record of 162-10. He placed third.

On Saturday the Falcons will compete in the Winona State Open.

UW-RF to host WIAC track and field championships

UW-River Falls will host the 2010 WIAC track and field championships May 7-8 at the Ramer Field Sports Complex.

The two day event brings together some of the nation's top Division III track and field teams and individuals.

Tickets will be on sale at the Ramer Track and Field Complex ticket booth from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., on Friday, May 7 and from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, May 8. An adult one day ticket is $10. A student (children six years old and over; college student with current ID) and senior citizen one day ticket is $5. An adult weekend ticket is $15. A student (children six years old and over; college student with current ID) and senior citizen weekend ticket is $8.Children age five and under will be admitted free. Credit/debit cards cannot be accepted.

Action begins at noon on Friday with the final race set to start at 7:10 p.m. On Saturday the action starts at 10 a.m., with the last race set for 4:35 p.m.

Summer volleyball camps

Three volleyball camps will be held this summer at UW-River Falls.

Each camp will provide great teaching, exposure to competition and skill enhancement. All beginning, intermediate and advanced players will benefit from the camp experience.

The Individual Instruction Overnight Camp for those in grades 5-10 (as of fall 2010) will be held June 28-30. The Team Camp, for freshmen, junior varsity and varsity teams, will be held July 18-20. And the Setter/Hitter/Libero Day Camp, for those in grades 9-12 (as of fall 2010), will be July 26-29.
