Emma, the daughter of Angie and Shaughn Laehn, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, cancer of the nervous system tissues, at age two. She underwent surgery to remove the tennis ball-sized tumor and had three rounds of outpatient chemotherapy, and has been cancer-free for over 11 years.

Angie, who teaches in Plum City with Shaughn, said eight out of 10 children today who are diagnosed with cancer can be successfully treated.

"We are thankful for the increase in success stories, but there is still work to be done," she said. "Eight out of 10 simply isn't good enough when we are talking about the lives of our children."

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward the Children's Cancer Research Fund, which is dedicated to finding a cure for childhood cancer. The organization also educates the public about childhood cancer, and supports quality-of-life programs for pediatric cancer patients and their families.

Laehn said registration for the walk can be done beforehand or on the day. For additional information, call (715) 579-5475 or e-mail aliemma@hotmail.com.
