Elderly woman's body found outside seniors building
An 85-year-old local woman was found Thursday morning, Feb. 11, lying on the ground just outside the Edgewater apartments, 629 N. Main St. She apparently had left her room sometime during the night, gone out the door and fallen not far away. The overnight temperature was barely above zero.
A River Falls Housing Authority maintenance worker making his morning rounds came upon the woman who was wearing only a nightgown and socks. Police and ambulance were called but the woman was already dead.
She was soon identified as Shirley J. Sitz who lived on the first floor of the Edgewater building.
Investigator Charles Goldin said police have ruled out foul play. Sitz had medical conditions that may have contributed to what happened.
A memorial service for Sitz will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Rush River Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Bakken-Young Funeral Home, 805 E. Division St.
