Earl E. Lewis, 92
Earl E. Lewis, 92, passed away on Jan. 30, at The Lutheran Home in River Falls.
Earl was born on Jan. 14, 1922, in Red Wing, Minn., the son of Frederick and Matilda Lewis. He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1940, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II and the Korean War. He received his PhD. in English and American Studies from the University of Minnesota and was a professor of English at UWRF for 25 years. Earl was President of The Association of University of Wisconsin Faculty from 1984-1986, and also served as chairman of the Pierce County Democratic Party. Earl married June Schnell on July 10, 1943, and they celebrated their 70th Anniversary last year.
Earl's passion was traveling the world with his wife, June, and they made many trips to Hawaii, Alaska, Central and South America, Europe, the South Pacific, and parts of Asia.
He was preceded in death by his son, John; and his daughter, Jane (Duane) Wisse.
Earl is survived by his wife June Lewis, River Falls; daughters Barbara Louks, Philadelphia, Pa., and Linda (Omar) Warner, River Falls; sister Marjorie Lohman, Red Wing, Minn.; brother Ralph Lewis, Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren: Scott Louks, Philadelphia, Pa.; Jennifer (Chad) Greenquist, Austin, Texas; Jake Wisse, Hudson, Wis., Liliana Warner, Atlanta, Ga., and Tony Warner, River Falls; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Peterson, Zach Greenquist, Maya Greenquist, Madison Wisse, Skylar Wisse, and Scout Wisse; siblings, Ralph (Margaret) Lewis, and Marjorie Lohman; and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, at Ezekiel Lutheran Church 202 S. 2nd St., River Falls, WI. Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, at the Bakken-Young Funeral Home, 805 E. Division St., River Falls, and from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, at the church. Spring interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in River Falls.
