Dr. John Richard (Dick) Berggren, Jr., VMD, 88
Dr. John Richard "Dick" Berggren, Jr., VMD, age 88, of River Falls, died Friday, Oct. 11, at the Lutheran Home, River Falls, Wis.
Dick was born on April 20, 1925, in New Richmond, Wis., the son of John and Gertrude (Moeger) Berggren.
He grew up in Baldwin, Wis., and was a graduate of Baldwin High School. Dick served in the U.S. Navy and later received his under graduate degree at UW-River Falls, and later his Veterinary Medical Doctors (VMD) degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Berggren served the River Falls area, as a veterinarian, for over fifty years. Dick married Carol Riter on Oct. 3, 1953, in River Falls.
Dick enjoyed fishing in Canada with his friends, and spent many hours on the golf course. He was a member of Ezekiel Lutheran Church, River Falls; Masonic Lodge #109 F & A.M., Zor Shrine, Madison, Wis., and the St. Croix Valley Shrine Club, River Falls, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a half-brother Bonnie Berggren.
Dick is survived by his wife Carol Berggren, River Falls; three children: Gail (Steve) Cudd, Tomahawk, Wis.; Julie (Christophe) Chandler, Woodbury, Minn.; John R. (Marianne) Berggren, III, Cotati, Calif.; grandchildren: Jessica Cudd, Melissa (Jeff) Loven and Stephanie Cudd, Michael, Emily and William Chandler; great-grandchildren: Shelby, Dylan, Devin and Ella; sister in-law Judy Svendsen; nephews, Vernon (Joan) Berggren and Mark Svendsen; and niece, Anne Svendsen-Sanchez.
Funeral services for Dick will be at 11 a.m., Monday, October 14, 2013 at Ezekiel Lutheran Church, River Falls. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, River Falls. Visitation was from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m., at the Cashman-Hill Funeral Home, River Falls, and for one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Monday.
